The ruling on a woman using perfume when she leaves the house
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Our sister asks the Shaykh and says: If a woman uses musk, oud oil, or the like, her scent is distinct. What is the ruling on using it, especially when a woman leaves her home? Also, is it considered honoring female guests by incensing them and perfuming them? She seeks guidance.
Answer: A woman going out to the markets with perfume is prohibited. She is not allowed to go out, nor is she allowed to assist female guests or visitors by doing so. Rather, she should advise them and say: We would like to perfume you, but a woman going out with perfume to the markets is not permissible. Therefore, this serves as her advice and an excuse for her. May Allah except the case where the woman is in cars, for cars do not harm by passing through the markets, because they do not mix with people and pass quickly, so that does not harm, if Allah wills. If she is visiting women or going to women, women may need this when they go to weddings and the like; they may need it. As for a woman walking in the markets, she is not allowed to use perfume except what is hidden in color and faint in scent. As for what its scent is apparent to people, this is not permissible for her while she is moving among people in their markets. Yes.
The presenter: May Allah reward you.
