Can a woman be a mahram for another woman?
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa number ( 9022 )
Q: If a man divorces his wife, and she has daughters, and she is living in a house where neither she nor her daughters have a mahram, is it sufficient for the mother to be the only mahram for them in this house where men who are not mahrams for this woman or her daughters are living? Knowing that their ages are over ten years. Please inform us, may Allah reward you, knowing that the owner of the house is called her maternal uncle and he is the one who contracted her marriage, and she has no one closer to her than him.
A: If the woman is traveling, she must have a mahram, and a woman is not considered a mahram for another woman, even a woman with her daughters. However, if she is in her house with her daughters or other women in a separate house with its own facilities or a separate apartment with its own facilities from a house where no one mixes with them in their apartment, it is not obligatory for a male mahram to live with them. But if the house or apartment is not safe due to the bad morals of the neighbors, they must move to a house or apartment in a safe neighborhood where there is no fear of fitnah (trial, discord or temptation)
or violation of sanctities from living there. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his companions.
