The Ruling on Hadiths Regarding the Virtue of the Arabs

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Also, our brother has listed a group of hadiths and asks Your Eminence to please provide guidance regarding them. He says: Our trust in you is absolute. Is it authentic from him (peace and blessings be upon him)
Love the Arabs and their preservation, for their preservation is the light of Islam, and their destruction is the destruction of Islamأحبوا العرب وبقاءهم فإن بقاءهم نور الإسلام، وإن فناءهم فناء الإسلام
,
If the Arabs are humiliated, Islam is humiliatedإذا ذل العرب ذل الإسلام
,
No one hates the Arabs except a hypocrite.لا يبغض العرب إلا منافق
Musnad Ahmad 614Da'if (Darussalam)
,
Loving the Arabs is faith, and hating them is hypocrisyحب العرب إيمان، وبغضهم نفاق
No believer hates the Arabsلا يبغض العرب مؤمن
, and so on, continuing to list many texts, among which are also:
Whoever cheats the Arabs, he will not be included in my intercession, and my love shall notمن غش العرب لم يدخل في شفاعتي ولم تنله
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 3928Da'if (Darussalam)
, and so on, Your Eminence! He asks for guidance on these texts?
Answer: These texts, as far as we know, are all weak, none of them free from criticism; some are false and some are weak. We have clarified many of them in our treatise (Critique of Nationalism in Light of Islam and Reality), and we have explained the speech contained in most of these hadiths, and the scholars (may Allah have mercy on them) have explained it as well. Some are not authentic at all, and some are weak.
As for deceiving the Arabs or deceiving non-Arabs, deception is forbidden for Arabs and non-Arabs alike, even if the hadith were not authentic. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Whoever cheats us is not one of us.من غشنا فليس منا
Sunan Ibn Majah 2225Da'if (Darussalam)
. Therefore, deceiving Arabs and non-Arabs is a forbidden and prohibited matter. No one has the right to deceive Arabs or non-Arabs. Rather, it is obligatory to be sincere to Arabs and others.
Then, the Arabs have a distinction in that they are the kin of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and that Allah sent him among them and sent him with their language. So they have a distinction from this aspect: they carried Islam, and they are the kin of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). They were the first to carry Islam and spread it among the people, so they have a distinction and a right from this aspect. It should be known that their status is recognized and their virtue is acknowledged. I mean: the Arabs who entered Islam, carried it to the people, taught it to the people, and became a model in goodness, such as the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them and grant them satisfaction) from among the Arabs, and the non-Arabs who carried Islam with them. These people have virtue and a distinction from among the Arabs and non-Arabs.
So al-Siddiq, 'Umar, 'Uthman, 'Ali, and the rest of the Ten, and others from the Ansar and the Muhajirun, have a great virtue. And so do those who followed them with excellence in carrying knowledge and jihad in the path of Allah, until they spread the religion of Allah and taught it to the people, whether they were Arabs or non-Arabs. They have a great right over the later Muslims in making du'a for them, being pleased with them, thanking them for what they did, and loving them for it.
As for the disbelieving Arabs, no, they have no right in this. And so do the disbelieving non-Arabs have no right in this. This is only for the Arabs who took on Islam, spread it among the people, taught it to the people, and fought in the path of Allah until the people entered the religion of Allah in multitudes. So they have a distinction and a right, and it should be known by those who came after them that their virtue is recognized, and that they should thank them for their good work, and be pleased with them and make du'a for them, just as they also make du'a for the non-Arabs who participated in the good, called to Allah, carried knowledge, taught it to the people, and compiled beneficial and useful books. This is shared between the Arabs and the non-Arabs. Yes.
The presenter: Your Eminence! If you would be so kind, when is the non-Arab better than the Arab?
The Shaykh: Just as Allah (Exalted and Majestic) said:
O mankind, indeed We have created you from male and female and made you peoples and tribes that you may know one another. Indeed, the most noble of you in the sight of Allah is the most righteous of youيَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ إِنَّا خَلَقْنَاكُمْ مِنْ ذَكَرٍ وَأُنثَى وَجَعَلْنَاكُمْ شُعُوبًا وَقَبَائِلَ لِتَعَارَفُوا إِنَّ أَكْرَمَكُمْ عِنْدَ اللَّهِ أَتْقَاكُمْ
[Surah al-Hujurat: 13]. So if the non-Arab is more mindful of Allah than the Arab, he is better. And whenever the Arab is more mindful of Allah, he is better. So virtue, nobility, and rank are by taqwa (mindfulness of Allah). Whoever is more mindful of Allah is better, whether he is Arab or non-Arab, free or slave.
The presenter: May Allah reward you.
