Ruling on Plucking the Eyebrow Hair

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
This is a letter we received from the questioner Huda 'Ali Muhammad from the southern Yemen, Lahij Governorate. She says in her letter: Is it permissible for a praying girl to pluck her eyebrows—she wrote it this way—despite the fact that I am a young woman who prays and performs the prayer at its times? I have a friend who prays and plucks her eyebrows. I told her: This is forbidden. She said: No, it is not forbidden, because the eyebrow is a woman's adornment. Is she mistaken or correct? Please inform us, may Allah reward you.
Answer: It is not permissible to pluck the eyebrows or to shave them with a razor. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
May Allah curse the one who plucks her eyebrows and the one who has her eyebrows pluckedلعن النامصة والمتنمصة
The scholars of language said: *Nams* means taking the hair of the eyebrows. Therefore, it is not permissible to take the hair of the eyebrows or to pluck the hair of the face, neither with a razor nor with anything else; because it is mutilation, so it is not valid. If the questioner means by "plucking" something other than this, we do not know what "plucking" is, but we clarify for her that taking the eyebrows, meaning: the hair of the eyebrows with a razor or otherwise, is not permissible. Likewise, the customary hair of the face is not for her to take.
As for if a beard or a mustache grows on her, then it is permissible for her to take this; because it disfigures her creation. The scholars have mentioned that there is no harm in taking the mustache or the beard that grows on a woman. As for the hair of the eyebrows, no. Do not take the hair of the eyebrows, do not pluck it, neither with a razor nor with anything else; because the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
May Allah curse the one who plucks her eyebrows and the one who has her eyebrows pluckedلعن النامصة والمتنمصة
And *nams* is taking the hair of the eyebrows. Likewise, the customary hair of the face that does not involve disfigurement is not to be taken. Yes.
The presenter: May Allah reward you.
