The Ruling on Buying from Shops That Sell Both Permissible and Forbidden Items
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Our brother also asks: Some shops sell permissible items and forbidden items. Is it permissible for a Muslim to frequent those shops to buy what is permissible from them, even though they sell forbidden items?
Answer: There is no blame on a person to deal with shops, stores, or other markets and buy his permissible needs from them, even if there is the sale of something forbidden therein; because Allah says: [Al-An'am: 164]. However, if he is able to denounce that, he must denounce the forbidden item and warn against it, stating that it is not permissible to sell this forbidden item. And if a market or shop is available that sells the permissible without the forbidden, that is better; because it encourages [the seller] and it is a distance from helping the people of haram and the people of harm to others. So if a shop or market is available to him that sells his permissible needs, let him move to it, let him buy from it, and let him deal with it, and let him leave that one who has mixed halal with haram, so that he does not become an encourager of it. But if necessity calls for him to buy from that shop, there is no blame, if Allah wills.
