The ruling on taking a specific place in the mosque for prayer

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The first message in this episode is a letter sent to the program from al-Hufuf, sent by our brother Muhammad Kamal Hafiz. Our brother is asking a set of questions, which are actually long, but the summary is as follows: First, he asks Your Eminence about a person who has taken a specific place for prayer in the mosque?
Answer: In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon the Messenger of Allah, and upon his family and his Companions, and upon those who follow his guidance.
As for what follows: A number of scholars have stated that it is disliked to take a specific place in the mosque where one does not pray except there. There are some hadiths regarding this matter that are not free from criticism. Therefore, what the believer should do is not to take a specific place in the mosque. Rather, whenever he comes, he should strive to be close to the imam and not take a specific place. This is what is required. There should be a race and haste toward good. If he is able to be behind the imam, that is the best. If that is not possible, he should hasten. As for taking a pillar, a pole, a wall, or a specific spot to pray at, this is contrary to what is prescribed. What is prescribed for him is to race and compete in good and to move forward. If he can be in the first row, he should be in the first row. If he can be close to the imam, he should be close to the imam. If he is unable to do so, he should be in the second row, and so on. As for taking a pole to pray at, or a spot to pray at that he does not pass, even if there is something closer to the imam, this is an error and contrary to the Sunnah. Yes.
The presenter: But if he is in the first row, for example, and he takes a place in the first row that he does not pass?
The Shaykh: No, this is not recommended.
The presenter: It is not recommended.
The Shaykh: At the very least, it is disliked. Yes.
The presenter: May Allah reward you.
