The Shaykh : Thus, we benefit from this and other matters by knowing that a Muslim cannot, even if he is earnest in his heart, understand Islam correctly. Allah (Mighty and Majestic) has mentioned this reality in another phrase, and it seems the hadith mentioned is an explanation and elaboration of the verse, namely His saying (Blessed and Exalted is He): [An-Nisa 4:115] who are the believers [An-Nisa 4:115]. There is no doubt that the first thing that comes to the mind of a reader who reflects on this verse is the Companions of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him). Then, as stated in the hadith agreed upon by al-Bukhari and Muslim, which I consider to be mass-transmitted, comes his saying (peace be upon him): . It is not amiss to point out that some people narrate it with the wording "the best of the generations," but the correct wording is: , Sahih al-Bukhari 3651. These three generations, which are attested to be the best, are those from whom every student of knowledge should derive his understanding of the Book and the Sunnah, so that he may be guided by his Lord (Blessed and Exalted is He).
And whoever opposes the Messenger after guidance has become clear to him and follows other than the way of the believers - We will give him what he has taken and drive him into Hell, and evil it is as a destination.
وَمَنْ يُشَاقِقِ الرَّسُولَ مِنْ بَعْدِ مَا تَبَيَّنَ لَهُ الْهُدَى وَيَتَّبِعْ غَيْرَ سَبِيلِ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ نُوَلِّهِ مَا تَوَلَّى وَنُصْلِهِ جَهَنَّمَ وَسَاءَتْ مَصِيرًاand follows other than the way of the believers
وَيَتَّبِعْ غَيْرَ سَبِيلِ الْمُؤْمِنِينَThe best of people is my generation
خير الناس قرنيThe best of people
خير الناسThe best people are those living in my generation, and then those who will follow them, and then those who will follow the latter
