The ruling on a woman uncovering her face, hands, and feet in prayer
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Our sister asks, along with our other listening sisters, Your Eminence the Shaykh about covering the hands and feet in prayer. Is it obligatory for a woman, or is it permissible to uncover them, especially if there are no non-mahram men present, or if she is praying with women?
Answer: As for the face, the Sunnah is to uncover it in prayer if there are no non-mahram men present; the Sunnah is to uncover it in prayer. As for the feet, it is obligatory to cover them according to the majority of the scholars, the majority of the scholars hold that it is obligatory to cover them, and there is disagreement on this; some scholars are lenient regarding the feet, but the majority prohibit uncovering them and hold that it is obligatory to cover them. For this reason, Abu Dawud (may Allah have mercy on him) narrated from Umm Salama (may Allah be pleased with her) So covering the feet is better and more cautious in every case.
As for the palms, the matter is more lenient regarding them. If you uncover them, there is no harm, and if you cover them, there is no harm; the matter is broad regarding them. Some scholars hold that covering them is better, but the matter is broad regarding them. If you cover them, that is good, if Allah wills, and if you pray with your palms uncovered, there is no harm.
The presenter: May Allah bless you. May Allah reward you with good.
