The extent of the validity of the claim that gold and money are among the things that aid in healing

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Perhaps among the physical medicines, may the Shaykh be respected, is what our brother Abu Muhammad is also asking about. He says: I read in the book *Al-Tibb al-Nabawi* (Prophetic Medicine) by Ibn al-Qayyim al-Jawziyyah, where he indicated that gold is beneficial in treating fear, weakness of the heart, and palpitations caused by melancholy, and it benefits from talking to oneself, sadness, grief, and panic and love—apparently. Is it permissible for someone who has these conditions to use gold, and is it lawful or forbidden? And what is your general opinion regarding what Ibn al-Qayyim describes in this book or in *Zad al-Ma'ad*?
Answer: I do not know a clear basis for this. Perhaps the reason is that gold is precious wealth and has value and importance. If a sad or worried person, or someone similar, acquires it, he finds comfort, tranquility, and joy that dispels the worry, sadness, and panic he is suffering from, due to its high value and preciousness. Just as a person, when he sees his beloved or the one he desires to meet, experiences joy, happiness, energy, and strength that dispels some illness and some harm.
Money is beloved to souls, and especially gold, which has preciousness, importance, and value. It may be that when a person sees it, or it is around him, or he knows it is with him or in his possession, he finds comfort, tranquility, and companionship with this thing that helps in repelling this affliction or alleviating it. This means that other valuable wealth is included with it, for the love of souls for money is well-known, as Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) said: :
And you love wealth with immense love.وَتُحِبُّونَ الْمَالَ حُبًّا جَمًّا
[Al-Fajr:20]. He said, the Exalted:
And indeed he is, in love of wealth, intense.وَإِنَّهُ لِحُبِّ الْخَيْرِِ لَشَدِيدٌ
[Al-Adiyat:8], meaning: money. So if it is gold, the matter becomes even more beloved; because gold is the most precious of wealth according to the general knowledge of people, even if there are minerals that may be more expensive than it, but according to the knowledge of people, especially the common people, gold is at the top in their estimation. It has an effect on souls and in dispelling illusions, sorrows, and panic, and the like. Perhaps it is only from this perspective. As for anything else, I do not know of it. And Ibn al-Qayyim, like other scholars, reports what people say, what doctors say, and what those before them said. They may point out something, comment on something, or report it as they found it. Yes.
And the issue in this returns to two matters:
The first is what is reported from the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him). So what is established from him (peace and blessings be upon him), there is no doubt that it is beneficial and useful as he (peace and blessings be upon him) said, if it is established from him with a sound chain.
As for the second matter, what is reported from the early or modern doctors, this is mostly based on experiments they conducted or reported from others. It may be beneficial and it may not. There may be things that hinder its benefit and prevent its effect. For one of the conditions for the benefit of medicine is that there is no obstacle preventing it. So if the medicine has an effect on the disease and there is no obstacle to the medicine's effect on the disease, then it will benefit by the permission of Allah; because there may be obstacles in the body of the person or the patient that repel the effect of this medicine, hinder it, or invalidate it. Allah is Wise and Knowing, (Exalted and Majestic is He).
For this reason, he (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
For every disease there is a medicine, so if the medicine for the disease is found—meaning: if the match is obtained—so if the medicine for the disease is found, he will be cured by the permission of Allahلكل داء دواء فإذا أصيب -يعني: حصلت الموافقة- فإذا أصيب دواء الداء برئ بإذن الله
It may be that this medicine is not suitable for this disease, yes, so it does not benefit in it. But if the medicine for the disease itself is found, which Allah made a cure for it, and it is used well and applied as it should, then it is the norm that Allah benefits with it.
The presenter: May Allah reward you.
