Explanation of His Saying: (Allah has sent down upon you a humiliation that He will not remove until you return to your religion)

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh: So what will be the recompense?
Allah will make disgrace prevail over you, and will not withdraw it until you return to your original religion.
Sunan Abi Dawud 3462Sahih (Al-Albani)
, The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) described the ailment when it strikes the Muslims, but he did not stop there; he matched the ailment with a cure in a kind word, but the Muslims today are heedless of it; he said:
until you return to your original religion
Sunan Abi Dawud 3462Sahih (Al-Albani)
.
I have a word here, and I hope it will be short so that we can make room for answering the questions. When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said in this hadith that the cure is returning to the religion; the first thing we should draw attention to is that the religion, as it came in the Qur'an, is Islam:
Indeed, the religion in the sight of Allah is Islam
[Ali 'Imran 3:19]
, and as He (Blessed and Exalted is He) said in the other verse:
This day I have perfected for you your religion and completed My favor upon you and have approved for you Islam as religion.
[Al-Ma'idah 5:3]
. This Islam which the Messenger (may Allah's prayers and peace be upon him) made the cure; if we return to it and take it, Allah (Mighty and Majestic) will remove the humiliation that has befallen us. Today, Islam has many, many concepts. And what do we talk about? Islam has become, in some of its foundations, in some of its beliefs, at the very least, a matter of disagreement. So Tawhid in some of its sections, Tawhid of worship, has become shirk (associating partners with Allah) called by some of them worship. I do not want to go deep into this; because there is no room now, but it is a reminder, and the reminder benefits the believers.
Likewise, some of the forbidden things have become today, at the very least, a matter of research and disagreement; is it permissible or not? Take, for example, these entertainments and musical instruments from which hardly a Muslim home is safe. We do not lack, with great regret, finding someone who says in its permissibility despite the coming of many hadiths from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in its prohibition. I limit myself to one hadith as a reminder; namely his saying (peace be upon him), as al-Bukhari narrated in his "Sahih" as a hanging hadith:
There will be among my ummah (the Muslim community) some people who make lawful the slave
Sahih Ibn Hibban 62:638
,
the slave الحرَ
meaning: the private parts, meaning: zina (unlawful sexual intercourse), and this is clear,
make lawful the slave and silk
; meaning: animal silk,
and intoxicants and musical instruments والخمر والمعازف
. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) attached musical instruments to the three forbidden things; which are zina, silk, and khamr (intoxicants). He attached them to them and said:
And musical instruments.
; What are musical instruments linguistically? If you return to the books of language and their dictionaries, you will find them saying: musical instruments are instruments of pleasure.
With this explicit text from one side, to other hadiths, and from the other side, the four Imams agreed on the prohibition of musical instruments; yet we still hear to this day that there is no objection to musical instruments and instruments of pleasure for the sake of amusement and relaxation of the soul.
So when the Messenger (peace be upon him) said: the cure is that you return to your religion; with what concept must we understand this Islam which is the cure? With the concept of His saying (Blessed and Exalted is He):
And if you disagree over anything, refer it to Allah and the Messenger, if you should believe in Allah and the Last Day. That is the best [way] and best in result.
[An-Nisa 4:59]
. Have the Muslims today agreed to return to this cure, to this treatment which is Islam on this basis from the previous verse:
And if you disagree over anything, refer it to Allah and the Messenger
[An-Nisa 4:59]
? The least of the scholars today who take their methodology in their return to their religion is that they start from that verse, while the majority takes from every madhhab (school of jurisprudence) what they claim agrees with the temporary benefit, and they do not make what they claim is benefit subject to what Allah said, what the Messenger of Allah said. And "Ibn al-Qayyim al-Jawziyyah" (may Allah have mercy on him) was truthful when he said:
"Knowledge is: Allah said, His Messenger said, *** The Companions said, it is not by deception
What is knowledge? You set it up for disagreement, foolishly *** Between the Messenger and the opinion of a jurist
No, and not denying the attributes and negating them *** Out of fear of ta'til (denial of the divine attributes) and tashbih (likening Allah to creation) "
So the cure is returning to Islam, and the Islam that was in the first era. For that reason, Imam Malik, the Imam of the City of Migration, said: "Whoever innovates in Islam an innovation which he sees as good; he has claimed that Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) betrayed the message. Read the saying of Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He):
This day I have perfected for you your religion and completed My favor upon you and have approved for you Islam as religion.
[Al-Ma'idah 5:3]
". Malik said: "So what was not a religion at that time, be alert, what was not a religion at that time will not be a religion today, and the end of this ummah (the Muslim community) will not be rectified except by what rectified its beginning." Therefore, if we want to return to this great cure which the noble Messenger described in that authentic hadith; namely Islam, we must understand it with the first Salafi concept; because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) made that the safety from the division and disagreement in the religion which is forbidden in the Book and the Sunnah, and the escape from the many misguided sects which the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) spoke about in the famous authentic hadith when he said:
The Jews split into seventy-one sects, and the Christians split into seventy-two sects, and my Ummah (the Muslim community) will split into seventy-three sects; all of them will be in the Fire except one.
. They said: O Messenger of Allah, who are they? He answered (peace be upon him) sometimes with one answer, and sometimes with another answer; he said:
The group.
. When it was said to him: Who is the saved group? He said:
It is the Jama'ah.
. And he means the group of the Companions, by the evidence of the other answer; he said:
It is the one that is upon what I am upon and my Companions
.
So if the Muslim today wants to be saved from disagreement, whether this disagreement is in the fundamentals or the branches; he has no way to that or to the salvation which the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) mentioned in this hadith except by returning to the group who are the Companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and especially among them the Rightly Guided Caliphs, whom the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) urged the Muslims to hold fast to their Sunnah, as came in the hadith of al-'Arba' ibn Sari'ah, and with this I conclude this word. Al-'Arba' (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) gave us a sermon that made our hearts tremble and our eyes shed tears, so we said: O Messenger of Allah, we see you giving us advice like one who is taking leave, so advise us with advice that we will not need anyone after it forever. He said (may Allah's prayers and peace be upon him):
I advise you to fear Allah and to listen and obey, even if an Abyssinian slave is appointed as your ruler. Indeed, whoever among you outlives me will see much disagreement. So hold fast to my Sunnah (recommended practice) and the Sunnah of the Rightly Guided Caliphs after me. Cling to them with your teeth. Beware of newly invented matters, for every newly invented matter is a bid'ah (religious innovation), and every bid'ah is misguidance.
, and in the hadith of Jabir:
and every going astray is in the Fire
Sunan an-Nasa'i 1578Sahih (Darussalam)
.
I ask Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He) to benefit us with what we have delivered and what we have heard; indeed He is the All-Hearing, the Responsive.
Now we turn, if Allah wills, to what is present to us of answers to the questions that we will hear, if Allah wills.
