The validity of the four schools of jurisprudence and the history of their emergence

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The question: He asks and says: The four paths—and I do not know if he means the schools, O Shaykh—he says: The four paths, the Ahmadis, the Shafi'is, the Malikis, and the Hanafis. Are these paths valid, and in which time did they appear?
Answer: These four schools; he means the four schools. The Ahmadis means the school of Ahmad ibn Hanbal, the Shafi'is are the followers of al-Shafi'i, Muhammad ibn Idris al-Shafi'i (may Allah have mercy on them both), the Malikis are the followers of Imam Malik ibn Anas (may Allah have mercy on him), and the Hanafis are the followers of Abu Hanifa, al-Nu'man ibn Thabit (may Allah have mercy on him). These are well-known schools that spread in the later centuries, in the third century and after. As for the school of Abu Hanifa, it became known and spread in the second century, and likewise the school of Malik in the second century. As for the schools of al-Shafi'i and Malik, they became famous after that, in the third century and after.
They are upon good, upon guidance, and upon truth , and may Allah have mercy on them. They are scholars of guidance, scholars of good. But it does not mean that everyone is infallible; errors occur from each of them. Each one has mistakes according to what reached them of the Sunnah and according to what they knew of the Book of Allah . Some knowledge or some of the Sunnah may be missed by some of them. This is a known matter. They and others, such as al-Awza'i, Ishaq ibn Rahawayh, Sufyan al-Thawri, Sufyan ibn Uyaynah, Waki' ibn al-Jarrah, Ibrahim al-Kalbi, and other well-known imams, each of them may miss some knowledge, because not everyone encompasses the Sunnah and encompasses the knowledge. Some things may be missed by them, but they are imams of guidance. Their followers organized their schools, collected their issues and their fatwas, and wrote about them until these schools spread and became known because of their followers who authored works on them and collected the issues of these imams and what they issued as rulings. Some errors may occur from some of them because the Sunnah did not reach them in some issues, so they issued a ruling based on their independent legal reasoning, and thus an error may occur for that reason. Another one had the hadith reach him and he knew the hadith, so he issued the correct ruling. This occurs for each of them in a limited number of issues. May Allah have mercy on them. Yes.
The presenter: May Allah reward you with good.
