The Prescribed Attire for a Woman When Going Out

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Is there a specific color that a woman must wear when she goes out, meaning, for example, that she must wear a black jilbab and cover her face, or is there no specific color she is required to adhere to?
Answer: There is no specific color she is required to adhere to, except that it should be clothing that does not attract attention and does not cause fitnah (trial, discord or temptation). It should be ordinary clothing that contains nothing to attract attention or cause fitnah to those who see her. This is because Allah (Exalted and Majestic is He) said:
And abide in your houses and do not display yourselves as [was] the display of the former times of ignoranceوَقَرْنَ فِي بُيُوتِكُنَّ وَلا تَبَرَّجْنَ تَبَرُّجَ الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ الأُولَى
[Al-Ahzab: 33]. The scholars said that tabarruj (a woman's display of her adornment) is displaying the beauty and charms of a woman. So, ordinary clothing, whether black or not black, red, blue, or green, if it is ordinary clothing with no adornment that attracts attention and no beauty that attracts attention, that is what is recommended. Likewise, the inner clothing should be covered by this jilbab and this abaya, along with covering the face, hands, and feet, so that she is far from fitnah (trial, discord or temptation). There is no objection to the khimar (the head covering) allowing her to see, as she must be able to see in order to know her way, or there can be one eye open, or both eyes, so that she can know the way, while covering the rest. Yes.
The presenter: May Allah reward you. If a woman's beauty is in her eyes, O Shaykh?
The Shaykh: Out of necessity, if it is possible for the khimar (the head covering) to cover the face, that is more complete and greater in terms of covering and hijab (the covering prescribed for women). However, some women may have weak eyesight, and it may not be sufficient for them, or they may not be able to see from behind the hijab (the covering prescribed for women), so they do what they can. Yes.
The presenter: May Allah reward you. If the covering changes the features of the face or the eyes, would that not be a type of hijab (the covering prescribed for women), O Shaykh?
The Shaykh: The important thing is that the charms are covered, so that the sight by which she perceives the way does not lead to fitnah (trial, discord or temptation). It is just one eye, or both eyes if one eye is not sufficient. Yes.
The presenter: May Allah reward you.
