The ruling on the follower saying: "We seek help from Allah" while the imam is reciting al-Fatihah

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The sender is 'Ajib Khalaf al-Ghanami from 'Afiif. May Allah prolong the life of our pious father, 'Abd al-'Aziz ibn 'Abd Allah ibn Baz (may Allah prolong his life)... Ameen. Peace be upon you and Allah's mercy and blessings. And after that: I ask Allah to prolong your life as a treasure for this ummah (the Muslim community), a guide to Allah, and a father to everyone. My question is: When the imam says
It is You we worship and You we ask for help.إِيَّاكَ نَعْبُدُ وَإِيَّاكَ نَسْتَعِينُ
[al-Fatihah:5], the follower says: "We seek help from Allah." What is the ruling on this saying?
Answer: I do not know of any evidence indicating its legitimacy. It is better for the follower to listen and not say this phrase, "We seek help from Allah," because there is no evidence for it. Therefore, it is better and more excellent for him to remain silent about it and not say this, even if he did say it, it would not harm his prayer; his prayer is valid. However, leaving it out is better because there is no evidence for the legitimacy of this from the follower. Rather, what is prescribed for him is to listen to his imam and reflect on what his imam is saying so that he benefits; due to the saying of Allah the Exalted:
So when the Qur'an is recited, then listen to it and pay attentionوَإِذَا قُرِئَ الْقُرْآنُ فَاسْتَمِعُوا لَهُ وَأَنصِتُوا
[al-A'raf:204], and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
When the Imam recites, then listen attentivelyإذا قرأ الإمام فأنصتوا
