The Ruling on Eating the Meat of Horses and Hyenas

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
What is the ruling on eating horse meat and hyena meat?
Answer: Horse meat is lawful; the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) permitted it. Likewise, hyena meat is lawful based on the explicit text from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Therefore, horses and hyenas are lawful for us, unlike wolves, lions, tigers, and dogs, which are forbidden. Likewise, all carnivorous beasts of prey are forbidden, except for the hyena, which is excluded by explicit text. And horses are lawful for us based on the explicit text from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), as mentioned by Jabir ibn Abdullah al-Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) , who said:
prohibited eating of the flesh of domestic asses on the Day of Khaibar, and permitted the cooking of the flesh of horses.نهى رسول الله ﷺ عن لحوم الحمر الأهلية وأذن في لحوم الخيل
Sahih Muslim 1941a
, and Asma bint Abi Bakr (may Allah be pleased with her) said:
We slaughtered a horse in the time of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and ate it while we were in Madinahنحرنا على عهد النبي ﷺ فرسًا فأكلناه ونحن في المدينة
It is agreed upon that it is authentic.
The conclusion is that horses are lawful for us, and likewise, hyenas are lawful according to the correct opinion. As for the known domestic donkeys and mules, these are forbidden; mules and donkeys are forbidden. Likewise, beasts of prey such as the wolf, tiger, lion, dog, and cat are all forbidden. Yes.
