The Ruling on the Use of Video and Cinema and Listening to Music

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Our brother is also asking about video and cinema and what the ruling on that is, and he is asking about music, O Shaykh?
Answer: These devices, video and cinema, carry a great danger. However, if the video contains only sound tapes that have no religious objection, with no naked women, no songs, no entertainment, and nothing of that sort, but rather sound tapes that benefit the servant in this world and the Hereafter, then there is no harm. Likewise, if one finds cinema that is sound and contains nothing that contradicts the pure Shari'ah, then there is no harm in it. But because what is known among people now is that cinema gathers much evil, and likewise video usually records songs, entertainment, women who are clothed yet naked, and the like, that is forbidden.
So the conclusion is: It is forbidden because of the evil in it, the evil that occurs in it, and the falsehood that is exposed in it. So if one finds sound video or sound cinema that contains nothing that contradicts the pure Shari'ah, it is not forbidden. But because of the evils, corruption, naked images, and gatherings for songs and entertainment that occur in it, it is forbidden because of that. And likewise music; because it is among the instruments of entertainment, it is not permissible to engage in it. Yes.
The presenter: May Allah reward you.
