The ruling on praying in a mosque that is deviated from the qiblah

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
It is an old mosque in which people pray, and it was found to be deviated from the qiblah. When I tried to straighten the rows during prayer, it was noticed that they were not aligned, and the pillars hindered that. What is the ruling? May Allah guide you.

Answer:
If the deviation is slight and does not cause harm, if the deviation in the direction of the mosque is small, and it is still toward the direction of the qiblah, but with a deviation, then it does not cause harm. People pray, and it does not harm them. However, if the deviation is significant, such that it deviates from the direction with a severe deviation, then the direction of the building or the direction of the rows must be corrected. As for the slight deviation, it is excused and does not cause harm.
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
What is between the east and the west is Qiblah.ما بين المشرق، والمغرب قبلة
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 342Sahih (Darussalam)
This means with regard to the people of the north and the south. Similarly, for the people of the east and the west, it is said regarding them that between the south and the north is the qiblah. If they are in the east, then the west is their qiblah. If they deviate from the direction, but they are still in the direction of the west, but they deviate from it toward the south or the north, then it does not cause harm.
However, if the deviation is severe—meaning that it is closer to the other direction—then this harms the prayer, and it is obligatory to correct the rows, or to turn the mosque, and to build it anew. As for the slight deviations, they are forgiven.
