Question:
Is the original ruling regarding wealth and honor permissibility, or prohibition? Please provide the evidence.

Answer:
The original ruling regarding wealth and honor is prohibition. Allah has forbidden us our wealth. He said:
And do not consume one another's wealth unjustlyوَلَا تَأْكُلُوا أَمْوَالَكُمْ بَيْنَكُمْ بِالْبَاطِلِ
[al-Baqarah:188]. He said:
or backbite each otherوَلَا يَغْتَبْ بَعْضُكُمْ بَعْضًا
[al-Hujurat:12].
And the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Verily your blood (lives) and your property and your honour are as sacred unto you as sacred is this day of yours, in this month of yours, in this city of yours.إن دماءكم، وأموالكم، وأعراضكم عليكم حرام كحرمة يومكم هذا، في شهركم هذا، في بلدكم هذا
Sahih Muslim 1679b
He addressed them on the Day of Sacrifice in Makkah—(peace and blessings be upon him)—so the original ruling regarding wealth, blood, and honor is prohibition. Nothing from them is lawful except what the Shari'ah has made lawful. What the Shari'ah has made lawful from our blood is retaliation and the stoning of the married adulterer... what the Shari'ah has made lawful, and from the limbs, theft and armed robbery, and from wealth, taking zakah if one refuses... nothing from them is lawful except what the Shari'ah has made lawful.
