A Woman Traveling with a Non-Mahram

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa No. ( 17702 )
Q: I hope you will clarify for me the ruling on my wife traveling by plane from al-Dhahran to al-Ta'if , accompanied by her sister who is married to my brother, along with my brother and our young children, knowing that I am unable to travel with her to take her there and return, as my financial means do not allow it, and their father and mother will be there to receive them in al-Ta'if - the duration of the trip is two hours -.
A: It is not permissible for a woman to travel by plane or any other means of transport except with a mahram; because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
A woman should not travel except with a mahramلا تسافر امرأة إلا مع ذي محرم
Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah 9:2565
It is agreed upon that it is authentic. Her sister's husband is not considered a mahram for her, and likewise her sister is not a mahram for her. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
