The ruling on raising the hands in supplication after the voluntary prayer

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
What is the ruling on consistently raising the hands in supplication after the voluntary prayer? And what is the ruling for one who believes that raising the hands is a virtue?

Answer:
We do not know of any basis for this. Consistently, if he does it sometimes; because raising the hands is among the causes of acceptance. So if he does it sometimes, or in an occasional supplication; that is good. But consistently, consistently after every prayer, we do not know of a basis for it. And this was not preserved from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) nor from the Companions, as far as we know. But if he does it sometimes after his prayer, sometimes; there is nothing wrong with it. But not as an obligation.

Question: And if he believes it is a virtue after the voluntary prayer?

Answer: If he does not do it consistently, the matter is broad.

Question: But if he believes it is a virtue, for example, after the voluntary prayer?

Answer: No, it has no basis. He knows, he knows that this is invalid. The hadith
Your Lord is munificent and generous, and is ashamed to turn away empty the hands of a servant when he raises them to Himإن ربكم حيي كريم يستحيي من عبده إذا رفع يديه أن يردهما صفرًا
Mishkat al-Masabih 2244
So raising the hands is among the causes of acceptance. But the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not persist in this in the voluntary prayer. Rather, he did it sometimes. And he (peace and blessings be upon him) did it when he supplicated on al-Safa and al-Marwah, he raised his hands. And when he supplicated at the two pillars, the first pillar, he raised his hands on the days of Mina. And likewise in the prayer for rain, he raised his hands - (peace and blessings be upon him) - and at 'Arafah. And in other places, he (peace and blessings be upon him) raised his hands in supplication. But after the obligatory prayer, like what some people do when they conclude the prayer, the imam supplicates, and the one praying behind him, and they raise their hands, this has no basis. Rather, it is a religious innovation.

Question: After the voluntary prayer, is it permissible?

Answer: And after the voluntary prayer, if he does it sometimes, there is nothing wrong with it. But it should not be done consistently.

Question: And if he does it consistently, is it not permissible?

Answer: He knows, he knows, it is not befitting.

Question: And if they believe it is a virtue, for example?

Answer: He knows, he knows that this is not befitting.

Question: But is it a religious innovation?

Answer: It should be left, the best is to leave it, the most cautious is to leave that.
