The Ruling on the People of the Interval in This World and the Hereafter

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
Did the people of the interval between Isa and Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon them both) receive the message of the messengers who came before them?

Answer:
The people of the interval are those to whom the messages did not reach; the call of no prophet reached them, neither Isa nor anyone else. They are called the people of the interval. This is also the case between Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) and Isa. It is a long interval; it is said to be six hundred years, or it is said to be less than that.

The correct version : They are tested in the Hereafter. On the Day of Resurrection, they are commanded to do good and forbidden from doing evil. Whoever responds enters Paradise, and whoever disobeys enters the Fire.
It is also said that they are among the people of Paradise, but the correct view is the first one. There are indications in the hadiths of this: that they are tested on the Day of Resurrection, and a neck of the Fire is brought out for them, and they are commanded to enter it. If they respond, it becomes for them coolness and peace. If they refuse, resist, and disobey, they are taken to the Fire.

In conclusion: They are tested on the Day of Resurrection. And whoever is mentioned in the hadiths as being among the people of the Fire from the period between the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) and Isa, perhaps something reached them regarding that. As came in a hadith narrated by Muslim in the Sahih that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to a man:
Verily my father and your father are in the Fire.إن أبي، وأباك في النار
Sahih Muslim 203
This is according to the people of knowledge.
Perhaps Abdullah had something reach him such that he deserved the Fire for it. Otherwise, he is among the people of the interval. But when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ruled for him with the Fire, it indicates that something reached him that necessitated that. Otherwise, he is among the people of the intervals. However, they are not prayed over, nor is supplication made for them, nor is forgiveness sought for them. This is because when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sought permission from his Lord to seek forgiveness for his mother—and she was among the people of the interval—he was not permitted to seek forgiveness for her. This indicates that whoever dies upon the religion of the disbelievers, and upon the outward appearance of disbelief, forgiveness is not sought for him, and he is not ruled to be a Muslim. Rather, his case is left to Allah.
