The Reality of the Asha'irah, the Ibadhiyyah, and the Zahiriyyah

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
We ask Your Eminence to inform us about the sects of the Asha'irah, the Ibadhiyyah, and the Zahiriyyah? Are these sects from the people of the Sunnah and the community, or are they among the sects that fall under the hadith stating:
Indeed, the Children of Israel divided into seventy-two sects, and my Ummah divided into seventy-three sects, all of them in the Fire except one.إن بني إسرائيل قد تفرقت إلى اثنين وسبعين فرقة، وتفرقت أمتي إلى ثلاث وسبعين فرقة، كلهم في النار إلا واحدة
?

Answer:
I advise you to adhere to the path of the Sunnah and the community, which is the path of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and the path of his Companions. This is the path of the people of the Sunnah, which is adhering to what the Prophet and his Companions were upon in their words, deeds, and conduct—(peace and blessings be upon him). You must adhere to this and be upright upon it. It is what came in the great Book and the pure Sunnah, and what the Salaf of the Ummah followed. This is the straight path: obedience to Allah and His Messenger, carrying out the command of Allah, leaving what Allah has forbidden, cooperating in righteousness and piety, advising one another to truth, and being patient in it. As for these sects, they are erroneous and misguided sects in many respects:
The Ibadhiyyah sect is a sect of the Khawarij. They left the call to what the Khawarij were upon, but they have misguidance, errors, and mistakes.
So it is with the Asha'irah; they have errors and mistakes. So it is with the Zahiriyyah, and the Zahiriyyah are the best of them. The Zahiriyyah are a good sect, and they are callers to Islam and callers to taking the apparent meaning of the Qur'an and the Sunnah. But they have errors. The Zahiriyyah have mistakes due to their lack of attention to meanings and legal analogy (qiyas). Therefore, they fell into errors. At their head are Dawud al-Zahiri (may Allah have mercy on him) and Ibn Hazm. They are not of the same kind as the Ibadhiyyah, nor of the same kind as the Khawarij, nor of the same kind as the Asha'irah in creed, especially Dawud al-Zahiri. As for Ibn Hazm, he has a deviation in creed—may Allah forgive us and every Muslim.

The Intended Meaning: The believer who is a student of knowledge must pay attention to what the people of the Sunnah and the community are upon, and strive to be safe from other deviant creeds: not the way of the Asha'irah, not the way of the pre-Islamic age of ignorance, not the Mu'tazilah, not the Ibadhiyyah, not the Rafidah, nor any other of the sects that fall under the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
and my nation will split into seventy-two, all of which will be in Hell apart from oneوستفترق أمتي على ثلاث وسبعين فرقة، كلها في النار إلا واحدة
Sunan Ibn Majah 3993Sahih (Darussalam)
The Khawarij, the Mu'tazilah, the Jahmiyyah, the Rafidah, and their like, all of them fall under this.
As for the Asha'irah, they have mistakes in creed, in the figurative interpretation of the attributes, and they have mistakes in other matters. But they are easier than the Khawarij, easier than the Mu'tazilah, easier than the Khawarij and better than them. They have errors that must be pointed out to awaken them, and we ask Allah to forgive their dead.
