The Disagreement Regarding the Prophets Committing Minor Sins

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
Some of the brothers were studying in a mosque and said: The Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) used to commit some minor sins. Is this authentic, or is it not authentic?

Answer:
The scholars disagreed regarding minor sins: do they occur from the Prophets? There are two opinions:
The majority: They hold that minor sins do occur from them, but they are not left to persist in them; they are guided and alerted so that they do not settle upon them. Rather, they abandon them and repent to Allah from them.
As for major sins, they do not occur from them (may Allah’s prayers and peace be upon them). Some minor sins may occur from them, but they are not left to persist in them. For this reason, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) informed that he said:
O Allah, forgive me all my sins, the small and the large, the first and the last, the open and the secret. O Allah, forgive me my seriousness and my joking, my mistakes and my intentional acts, and all of that is with me.اللهم اغفر لي ذنبي كله دقه وجله، وأوله وآخره، وعلانيته وسره، اللهم اغفر لي جدي وهزلي، وخطئي وعمدي، وكل ذلك عندي
