Are minor sins expiated for one who persists in a major sin?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
If one persists in major sins, are the minor sins expiated?

Answer:
As your Lord said:
If you avoid the major sins which you are forbidden, We will remove from you your lesser sinsإِنْ تَجْتَنِبُوا كَبَائِرَ مَا تُنْهَوْنَ عَنْهُ نُكَفِّرْ عَنْكُمْ سَيِّئَاتِكُمْ
[Surat al-Nisa: 31], meaning: minor sins, a grace from Allah.
But people have differed regarding the limit of a major sin; one may think it is minor when it is actually major. So let one be cautious of all evil deeds, both minor and major, so that he is on guard; for he may fall into a major sin while thinking it is minor.
Q: As long as he is persisting in a major sin and he prays the prayers, are the minor sins expiated for him?
A: No, they are not expiated. The condition is avoiding major sins.
