The Shaykh’s refusal to accept a gift if it was from a person he had authorized to buy it for him, and his insistence on paying for it.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh: All right, I am saying.
The student: Yes.

The Shaykh: When you say, and the doctor, and whoever you mentioned, that we want you to make du'a' for us.
The student: Yes.

The Shaykh: So I am narrating to you a hadith now, the meaning of which is that du'a' is the weapon of the helpless.
The student: Hehehe.

The Shaykh: In cases like this.
The student: This hadith is now.

The Shaykh: No, I will give you the meaning.
The student: Yes.

The Shaykh: I have not yet given you the text of the hadith.
The student: Yes.

The Shaykh: But I am making an introduction for you so that you pay attention to the implication of the hadith when I claim it.
The student: Yes.

The Shaykh: I say that if I, or anyone else, is content with the one who has done a favor by having him make du'a' for him, then he has attributed helplessness and weakness to himself. I am truly helpless, as you see, I have no teeth left in my mouth, but materially, to some extent, I am not helpless.
The student: May Allah sustain ... .

The Shaykh: Do you see how it is? So if I am content with your request for du'a' from me, then you and others have attributed to me, without intending it, yes.
The student: There is no god but Allah, Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah.

The Shaykh: Yes, here.
The student: The coffee.

The Shaykh : Ah, okay.
The student: Mahmoud Sulayman is taking it.

The Shaykh: No, I am taking it in the name of Allah.
The student: This is Umm al-Fadl.

The Shaykh: Yes.
The student: How are you, Umm al-Fadl?
Another student: May Allah bless you.
Another student : May you be well, if Allah wills.
Another student : Praise be to Allah, I am well ... .
Another student : May Allah reward you with good. May Allah strengthen you, if Allah wills, and bless you.
Another student: May Allah bless you.

The Shaykh: Please, this is it, you are done with it.
The student: Yes.

The Shaykh: Give it to me.
The student: How...
Another student : By Allah, they sent their greetings to you. By Allah, the doctor sends many greetings, longing, saying you have not visited us, and absolutely, what have we done wrong? Surely, I mean.
Another student: ...
Another student : They sent us many greetings.
Another student : Send her greetings.
Another student : May Allah keep you safe and bless you ... .

The Shaykh: So my claim, you heard it now, listen to its evidence.
The student: Yes.

The Shaykh: He said - may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him - :
if anyone does you a kindness recompense him, but if you have not the means to do so pray for him مَن صنع إليكم معروفًا فكافئوه ؛ فإن لم تستطيعوا أن تكافئوه فادعوا له
Mishkat al-Masabih 1943
.
The student: So make du'a' for him.

The Shaykh: Is my claim correct or not?
The student : Correct.

The Shaykh: All right, so first, you are conveying this directly, and you will convey it to the doctor and his companions with him.
The student : Yes, yes.

The Shaykh: That I have accepted your gift, but I am not helpless.
The student: Yes, may Allah reward you with good. We say this, meaning, and the Messenger, may Allah send prayers upon him, we accept the hadith on our heads.

The Shaykh : There is no doubt.
The student: But this does not mean that if you, the one with the right, want to waive your right out of respect for your brother, or your father, or your companion, this does not mean that your companion is helpless. He is not so. But it is enough for you, out of generosity, that your brother makes du'a' for you. We mean, if you gave us its value and more, we would still be falling short in truth.

The Shaykh: May Allah bless you. We hear this from many of our good brothers, like you.
The student : May Allah reward you.

The Shaykh: But what we mean is clear.
The student: Yes.

The Shaykh: There is a difference, and this is a matter you will agree with, if Allah wills, between these sweets, what is their value?
The student : There is nothing wrong with it.

The Shaykh: Between me saying to you, bring me a kilo of sugar, and you offering me a kilo of sugar.
The student: Correct.

The Shaykh: When you offer me a kilo of sugar, I say to you, may Allah reward you with good, this is a gift, and you thank for it, and
Exchange gifts, and you will love one another. تهادوا تحابُّوا
as it came in the hadith. But when I say to you, bring me a kilo of sugar, you say to me, this is a gift? We call that a "baykha."
The student: Hehehe.

The Shaykh: Is that right or not?
The student: Authentic, yes.

The Shaykh: And we are now like this. This is a gift. I told him, I, for the doctor, my need now is such and such. I have trusts, you know.
The student: Yes, yes, it is known.

The Shaykh: And bequests, and so on.
The student : Yes, correct.

The Shaykh: And my house is knocked on a lot, and very much, as you know, day and night. So I see, from the perspective of taking means.
The student : You have done well.

The Shaykh: Then one must have tawakkul (reliance upon Allah) in the Lord of lords that I am in need of such and such. So the man, may Allah reward him with good, as is supposed, said, I will look into it, so and so, and so on. So this was at my request.
The student : You have done well.

The Shaykh: So the speech in your previous answer, I almost said, but I did not dare to say, this is a nice patch, hehe.
The student: Hehe, may Allah honor you, O Shaykh.

The Shaykh : Yes.
The student: In truth, the matter is finished, completely finished, in terms of the search.
