Question:
May Allah reward you, O honorable Shaykh. This questioner says: My grandmother did not pray out of negligence and laziness, but she believed in Allah and His Messenger. Is it permissible for me to pray for her forgiveness and to perform the lesser pilgrimage on her behalf?
Answer:
No. The one who does not pray while he is of sound mind and has his faculties, and who abandons prayer, is not a Muslim, he is not a Muslim. And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “The covenant between us and them is prayer, so whoever abandons it has committed disbelief.”
