The questioner: Oh Shaykh, one of the Tabligh Jama'ah argued to me that the methods of da'wah are not restricted or defined, and a person can innovate new methods because these methods do not lead to misguidance or anything else. So I explained to them that this matter itself is misguidance, and they said to me, "We want evidence that the methods of da'wah are restricted?"
The Shaykh: This is evidence of their ignorance. The evidence, may Allah bless you, has already been presented to you previously. Tell them: Why do you not begin your sermons with what the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to begin his sermons with, "All praise is due to Allah, we praise Him, we seek His help, and we seek His forgiveness"? Why? If they say, "This is not from the Sunnah," then they have uncovered the veil from their eyes. If they say, "This is from the Sunnah," then it is said to them: Why did you turn away from it? Debating them requires knowledge and a long, very long discussion. So this statement you quoted from them alone is sufficient to prove that they are ignorant, and that they say what they do not know and say what they do not do. And our Lord (Mighty and Majestic) says in the Noble Qur'an:[As-Saf 61:2-3] The one who distinguishes between the goal and the means and claims that the means differ—should he not be one of the great scholars of the Ummah, knowledgeable in the Book and the Sunnah, so that he can distinguish between the goal and the means? These people are like other groups who divide Islam into principles and branches, then build upon this false division that they do not care about the branches and care about the principles, while they do not know the difference between principles and branches, and thus they lose the principles along with the branches. Another group says in many matters that came in the Sunnah, "These are husks, and we must hold fast to the kernel." So they divided Islam into two parts: husks and kernel. They left the husks, in their claim, and held fast to the kernel, in their claim, and due to their ignorance of distinguishing between the two, whether they said husks or kernel, or principles or branches, they lost the principles and branches, and the kernel and husks, due to their ignorance of Islam. [Qaf 50:37] And now we give the turn to other questioners, and peace be upon you.
The questioner: Peace be upon you, oh Shaykh.

(2) O you who have believed, why do you say what you do not do? (3) Great is hatred in the sight of Allah that you say what you do not do.
Indeed in that is a reminder for whoever has a heart or who listens while he is present [in mind].
