Denial of Satanic Possession

Question:
We took our sister to one of the reciters, and we mentioned to him that she is possessed. He denied that and said: There is no such thing as possession; it is only the evil eye. What is Shaykh Salih’s opinion on this?

Answer:
Answer: Yes, there is possession by the jinn, and there is the evil eye; both things occur, and this is by the divine decree and destiny of Allah. As for possession, as Allah (Exalted and Majestic is He) said: (the one whom Satan strikes with possession), this indicates that there is possession by Satan. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Satan runs through the son of Adam as blood runs.” So the jinn mix with humans and possess them, and this is by the explicit text of the Qur'an. Whoever denies this is either ignorant, or he is denying the Qur'an. There is possession by the jinn, and there is the evil eye, the evil eye of the envious person as well. So both are present, and nothing protects against them except the remembrance of Allah, and maintaining the daily recitations in the morning and in the evening.
