Question:
What is the difference between Islam and faith?

Answer:
Answer: Islam is broader than faith, and faith is more specific than Islam. From one perspective, when Islam is mentioned in a general sense, faith is included in it. When Islam is mentioned in a general sense, faith is included in it. When both are mentioned together, Islam has a specific meaning and faith has a specific meaning. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was asked by Jibril about Islam, and he said: “Islam is that you testify that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, and that you establish the prayer, pay the zakah, fast Ramadan, and perform Hajj to the House if you have the means to do so.” He was asked about faith, and he said: “That you believe in Allah, His angels, His books, His messengers, the Last Day, and that you believe in divine decree, its good and its evil.” So when Islam and faith are mentioned together, Islam means the outward actions, and faith means the inward actions of the heart. When one of them is mentioned, the other is included in it. For this reason, they say: When they are gathered, they are separated, and when they are separated, they are gathered.
