Types of Reconciliation and Its Virtue

Another questioner asks about the saying of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him): "Reconciliation is permissible among Muslims, except for a reconciliation that makes the forbidden lawful or the lawful forbidden." What are the forms of permissible reconciliation and its virtue?

Answer:
Answer: Yes, reconciliation is the settlement of disputes between those who are at odds, and this is encouraged; for making peace between those in conflict is among the greatest acts of obedience. Also, among the types of reconciliation is reconciliation between tribes if there is a dispute or fighting between them, in which case one makes peace between them. Allah the Exalted said: (And if two parties among the believers fight, make peace between them) to the end of the verse. Likewise, reconciliation between spouses if a disagreement arises between them; one makes peace between them, or appoints an arbitrator from her family and an arbitrator from his family, who look into what is best for them, whether separation or remaining together. This is one of the types of reconciliation, reconciliation between spouses. (And if a woman fears from her husband desertion or turning away, there is no blame on them if they make peace between themselves, for peace is best.) So either they make peace between themselves, or the judge intervenes and appoints the two arbitrators, who look into their dispute and make peace between them.
