Explanation of the words of Imam al-Nawawi (may Allah have mercy on him) regarding what he quoted: "

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful:
The author (may Allah have mercy on him) said: "The Chapter on Reconciliation Between People":
Reconciliation between people is when there is hostility and hatred between two individuals, and a successful man comes and reconciles them, removing the hostility and hatred between them. The closer the relationship between the two men, the more urgent the reconciliation between them. That is, reconciliation between a father and his son is better than reconciliation between a man and his companion, and reconciliation between a brother and his brother is better than reconciliation between an uncle and his nephew, and so on. The greater the severance, the more complete, better, and urgent the reconciliation is between the two who hate each other and the two who have cut ties.
Know that reconciliation is among the best of righteous deeds. Reconciliation between people is among the best of righteous deeds. Allah (Mighty and Majestic) said:
No good is there in much of their private conversation, except for those who enjoin charity or that which is right or conciliation between people
[An-Nisa 4:114]
meaning: except for a private conversation in which one commands charity.
And private conversation (najwah) is: "the hidden speech between a man and his companion". So most of the private conversations between people have no good in them, yes, much of the private conversation between people has no good in it except for one who commands charity or what is right.
And what is right (ma'ruf) is: "everything that the Shari'ah has commanded, meaning: commanded good", or reconciliation between people: there is harm between them, so a successful person comes and reconciles them, removing the hostility and hatred between the man and his companion.
Then He said:
And whoever does that seeking means to the approval of Allah - then We are going to give him a great reward.
[An-Nisa 4:114]
: So the Exalted clarified in this verse that the good is attained by one who commands charity or what is right or reconciliation between people. This is good that is attained without doubt. As for the reward, He said:
And whoever does that seeking means to the approval of Allah - then We are going to give him a great reward.
[An-Nisa 4:114]
:
So you, my Muslim brother, if you see hostility, hatred, and aversion between two people, strive to work for reconciliation between them, even if you lose some of your wealth, for it will be compensated for you.
Then know that it is permissible to use euphemism (tawriyah) in reconciliation. That is, you say to the person: So-and-so did not say anything about you, so-and-so loves the people of good, and the like of that. Or you say: So-and-so loves you if you are among the people of good, while you intend in your heart: if you are among the people of good, in order to avoid lying.
And Allah (Mighty and Majestic) said:
And if a woman fears from her husband contempt or evasion, there is no sin upon them if they make terms of settlement between them - and settlement is best
[An-Nisa 4:128]
, this is a general statement:
Settlement is best
: in all matters.
Then He said, the Exalted:
And present in [human] souls is stinginess
[An-Nisa 4:128]
: indicating that a person should, when reconciling, concede what is in his heart and not follow his self, because if he follows his self, the self is stingy. A person may want to take his full right, and if a person wants to take his full right, reconciliation becomes difficult. Because if you want to take your full right and your companion wants to take his full right, there is no reconciliation.
But if each of you concedes what he wants and overcomes the stinginess of his self, then good is attained and reconciliation is attained. This is the benefit of His saying, the Exalted:
And present in [human] souls is stinginess
[An-Nisa 4:128]
after His saying:
And settlement is better
, and He said, the Exalted:
And if two factions among the believers should fight, then make settlement between the two
[Al-Hujurat 49:9]
so Allah (Mighty and Majestic) commanded reconciliation.
So the important point is: that all reconciliation is good. So you, my Muslim brother, if you see two people disputing, hating each other, and being hostile, reconcile between them so that you may attain much good, and seek in that the Face of Allah and the reconciliation of the servants of Allah, so that you may attain much good, as Allah the Exalted said:
And whoever does that seeking means to the approval of Allah - then We are going to give him a great reward.
[An-Nisa 4:114]
: I ask Allah to make me and you among the righteous and the reconcilers.
