Question:
We are to explain the last two verses of Surat al-A'raf, in the statement of the Truth, Blessed and Exalted is He—I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed Shaytan—{And remember your Lord within yourself, with humility and fear, and below the level of loud speech, in the morning and in the afternoon, and do not be among the heedless. Indeed, those who are with your Lord do not disdain to worship Him, and they glorify Him, and to Him they prostrate} [al-A'raf 205-206].

Answer:
Answer: In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may Allah send prayers and peace upon our Prophet Muhammad, and upon his family and all his Companions. Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He, says to His Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him): {And remember your Lord within yourself}. He commands him to remember Allah (Mighty and Majestic) through glorification, the declaration of the oneness of Allah, the declaration of the greatness of Allah, praise, and other types of dhikr (remembrance of Allah), which contain praise of Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) and also supplication from the created being. For when the created being remembers his Lord, he has called upon Him. {And remember your Lord within yourself} means that he conceals his remembrance of Allah (Mighty and Majestic); so his remembrance is in his heart, and his remembrance is with his tongue, and his remembrance of Allah is also through his actions. All acts of worship, whether verbal or physical, whether of the heart or of the tongue, are all remembrance of Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He). And whatever a person conceals of these, that is more conducive to sincerity, except for the dhikr for which it is prescribed to make them public. {And remember your Lord within yourself, with humility and fear}—fear of Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) and humility toward Him through remembrance and supplication. {And below the level of loud speech} means that a person moves his tongue with the remembrance such that he hears himself, and the remembrance does not stop at the heart without utterance by the tongue. {And below the level of loud speech}. And the time for the dhikr is {in the morning}, the morning being the beginning of the day, and {in the afternoon}, the end of the day. These two times have great virtue. {And glorify with the praise of your Lord before the rising of the sun and before its setting} [Ta-Ha 130]. This includes the 'Asr prayer and the Fajr prayer. The Fajr prayer is in the morning, and the 'Asr prayer is in the afternoon. {In the morning} includes the Fajr prayer, and {in the afternoon} includes the 'Asr prayer. Then He said: {And do not be among the heedless}, meaning those who are heedless of the remembrance of Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He), for that severs the connection with Allah (Mighty and Majestic), and also results in heedlessness in the heart. Then He mentioned, Glorified is He, the angels who are with Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He). So Allah, Exalted and Majestic is He, is remembered by the angels in the sky and by the believers on the earth. {Indeed, those who are with your Lord}—and they are the angels—{do not disdain to worship Him}. Rather, they worship Him with various types of worship, not ceasing; they glorify Him night and day, not ceasing; they bow and prostrate to their Lord (Mighty and Majestic). {Indeed, those who are with your Lord}—and they are the angels, upon them be prayers and peace—continue the worship of Allah and His remembrance. They do not disdain to worship Him. So whoever disdains the worship of Allah is a disbeliever. Iblis, when he disdained the worship of Allah and refused to prostrate as Allah commanded him for Adam, Allah expelled him and cursed him. So he is the head of those who disdain obedience to Allah and the worship of Allah (Mighty and Majestic). So the one who is arrogant will be a disbeliever with the most severe disbelief, and his end will be the Fire. So the angels do not disdain, despite their high status, their nearness to Allah (Mighty and Majestic), and the greatness of their power and creation; they do not disdain the worship of Allah. They do not disdain His worship, and they love Him and purify Him from what is not befitting Him (Glorified and Exalted is He). {They do not disdain to worship Him, and they glorify Him, and to Him they prostrate}. They prostrate to Allah (Mighty and Majestic) in reverence to Allah and exaltation of Allah, and in obedience to Allah. And they do not disdain prostration, unlike the state of the polytheists, who, when it is said to them, "Bow down," they do not bow down—we seek Allah's protection from that.
