Excess and Waste

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
What is the criterion for excess and waste?

Answer:
Answer: Excess is spending beyond what is needed. (And those who, when they spend, neither waste nor are stingy, but hold a balance between the two) meaning between excess and stinginess (a straight and sufficient way of life). When that is the case, the servant is safe from the responsibility of waste, about which Allah (Exalted and Majestic is He) said: (And do not waste wastefully. Indeed, the wasteful are brothers of the devils, and the devil is ever ungrateful to his Lord). So whatever is spent or given beyond what is needed, that which exceeds the need is waste, and the servant will be questioned about it on the Day of Resurrection. Among the things about which the servant will be questioned on the Day of Resurrection are four, one of which is that he will be questioned about his wealth: where he earned it from and in what he spent it.
