Ruling on assisting a person seeking marriage from zakah

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q162: The questioner asks: Who are the recipients of zakah? And is a young man who desires to marry given from the zakah?
A162: Allah has specified the recipients of zakah among them in His saying, Glorified and Exalted is He:
Zakah expenditures are only for the poor and for the needy and for those employed to collect [zakah] and for bringing hearts together [for Islam] and for freeing captives [or slaves] and for those in debt and for the cause of Allah and for the [stranded] travelerإِنَّمَا الصَّدَقَاتُ لِلْفُقَرَاءِ وَالْمَسَاكِينِ وَالْعَامِلِينَ عَلَيْهَا وَالْمُؤَلَّفَةِ قُلُوبُهُمْ وَفِي الرِّقَابِ وَالْغَارِمِينَ وَفِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ وَاِبْنِ السَّبِيلِ
[At-Tawbah 9:60]
. These eight categories are the recipients of zakah. A person who desires to marry but is unable to bear the costs of marriage is assisted from the zakah; there is nothing wrong with that.
