Nocturnal Emission of the Fasting Person

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The first question of Fatwa No. ( 16629 )
Q1: I experienced a nocturnal emission on a morning in Ramadan after the Fajr prayer, and semen came out of me. I know that masturbation in Ramadan is forbidden, but I have no control over this dream. I hope you will inform me about this, and whether my fast is invalid. If my fast is invalid, is there a sin on me and do I have to make it up? And what is obligatory for me to do regarding this day?
A1: A nocturnal emission does not invalidate the fast of the fasting person, because it occurs without his choice. However, he must perform the full ritual bath (ghusl) from major ritual impurity (janabah) if semen comes out of him, for the sake of prayer. The ruling on nocturnal emission is not like the ruling on masturbation, because masturbation occurs by one’s choice, whereas nocturnal emission occurs without one’s choice. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
