Ruling on catching the prayer with one rak'ah
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q406: The questioner from Hadramaut asks: If a man comes to the prayer and finds the imam bowing, and he bows with him, but did not recite al-Fatihah, what is the validity of this prayer? Because I heard that Jami` at-Tirmidhi 247Sahih (Darussalam)?
A406: If he comes and the imam is in bowing, he should say the takbir of ihram while standing, then bow with the imam. He will have caught the rak'ah, and reciting al-Fatihah is not obligatory on him in this case, because its time has passed. His prayer is valid, because the place for reciting al-Fatihah is standing, and that has passed. So if he catches the imam in bowing and bows with him, he has caught the rak'ah, and his prayer is valid, if Allah wills. The evidence for this is that Abu Bakrah came while the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was in bowing, so he entered with him in bowing, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not order him to make up that rak'ah. Rather, he said to him:Sunan Abi Dawud 683Sahih (Al-Albani)
Because when he turned toward the row, he hurried and said the takbir before reaching the row. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade him from hurrying when the imam is in bowing; rather, he should come with composure and calmness, as he (peace and blessings be upon him) said:Sunan Abi Dawud 572Hasan Sahih (Al-Albani) And in a narration: So what he disapproved of was only the haste, and he did not order him to repeat the rak'ah that he caught with him. This indicates that whoever catches the imam in bowing and bows, he has caught the rak'ah. And what you heard from some people is the weaker position, and the correct one is what we have mentioned, and Allah the Exalted knows best.
There is no Salat for the one who does not recite Fatihatil-Kitab.

When the iqamah is pronounced for prayer, do not come to it running, but come walking(slowly). You should observe tranquility. The part of the prayer you get(along with the imam) offer it, and the part you miss complete it(afterwards).
