The ruling on increasing beyond eleven rak'ahs in the night prayer

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q304: The questioner asks: What is the ruling on increasing beyond eleven rak'ahs in the night prayer?
A304: There is nothing wrong with that; because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) encouraged standing in night prayer but did not set a specific limit for it. Rather, he (peace and blessings be upon him) did not exceed eleven or thirteen rak'ahs, whether in Ramadan or otherwise. However, he would lengthen the prayer, the standing, the bowing, and the prostration, and he would lengthen the prayer. As for if one shortens the prayer and increases the number of rak'ahs, there is nothing wrong with that.
