Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa number ( 19127 )
Q: I suffer from a skin disease (psoriasis), which is not contagious in the opinion of medicine. This disease is widespread on my body, especially in the areas of the shoulders, chest, abdomen, legs, and arms. I want, with the will of Allah, to perform the obligatory Hajj or 'Umrah. When I wear the ihram clothes, a large part of the disease's lesions is visible. Personally, I am disgusted by my appearance when I stand in front of the mirror. I fear that people will be disgusted by me while I am wearing the ihram clothes. By the grace of Allah, I have the expenses for Hajj or 'Umrah. May Allah reward you with good; help me with the answer, taking into consideration the aversion of people to those with skin diseases, if
The disease is widespread over large areas of the body and arms, and they do not know whether this disease is contagious or not?

A : It is obligatory for you to perform the obligatory Hajj and 'Umrah. The presence of this skin disease in some parts of your body, and the fear that people will be disgusted by you, is not an excuse that permits you to leave Hajj. You may wear sewn clothing if you are harmed by wearing the ihram garments, and you must pay the expiation for wearing sewn clothing, which is: fasting for three days, or feeding six poor people, with each poor person receiving one and a half kilograms of food, such as rice or other staple food of the country, or slaughtering a sheep. The appearance of this skin rash (psoriasis) on many parts of your body does not prevent you from performing the obligatory Hajj, especially since you mentioned that it is not contagious, as the doctors told you. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
