Defining Taqwa

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q301: The questioner asks: What is taqwa? What are its boundaries? And how does a Muslim achieve taqwa in all his actions?
A301: Taqwa is that you place a protection between yourself and the anger and punishment of Allah that shields you from it, by doing what Allah the Exalted has commanded and leaving what He has forbidden. So you leave the disobedience of Allah, hoping for the reward of Allah and fearing His punishment, and you do what Allah has commanded you, hoping for the reward of Allah. It is a great, comprehensive word, and it is the best provision, as Allah the Exalted said:
And take provisions, but indeed, the best provision is fear of Allah. And fear Me, O you of understanding.وَتَزَوَّدُوا فَإِنَّ خَيْرَ الزَّادِ التَّقْوَى وَاتَّقُونِ يَاأُولِي الْأَلْبَابِ
[Al-Baqarah 2:197]
