Ruling on abstaining from some permissible things out of asceticism

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q311: The questioner asks: If a person wants to abstain from some permissible things; out of asceticism, not prohibition, what is the ruling?
A311: Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He, has made permissible things lawful, and what is forbidden is extravagance. Allah the Exalted said:
and do not commit abuse on the earth, spreading corruption."وَلاَ تَعْثَوْا فِي الْأَرْضِ مُفْسِدِينَ
[Al-Baqarah 2:60]
, and He said:
And be not excessive. Indeed, He does not like those who commit excess.وَلاَ تُسْرِفُوا إِنَّهُ لاَ يُحِبُّ الْمُسْرِفِينَ
[Al-An'am 6:141]
, and He said:
And [they are] those who, when they spend, do so not excessively or sparingly but are ever, between that, [justly] moderateوَالَّذِينَ إِذَا أَنْفَقُوا لَمْ يُسْرِفُوا وَلَمْ يَقْتُرُوا وَكَانَ بَيْنَ ذَلِكَ قَوَامًا
[Al-Furqan 25:67]

This is what is commanded. As for leaving some permissible things while one desires them, he does not forbid himself from them, but he does not be extravagant in consuming them.
