The Time for Slaughtering the 'Aqiqah

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The second question of Fatwa No. ( 15888 )
Q2: Is it permissible for a man, when his child is born, whether a girl or a boy, to invite his relatives or the people of the neighborhood who live near him to the time of the purification, knowing that each of them brings a sheep which they consider a charity for the sake of Allah, and they do not seek fame or boasting from it, nor do they slaughter all of it, but they take only what is sufficient for those present at this purification and the marriage, in the same manner? Do you advise them against any of this? May Allah reward you with good?
A2: It is recommended for one whose child is born to slaughter the 'aqiqah on his behalf: two sheep for a boy and one sheep for a girl. It is better that it be slaughtered on the seventh day of his birth and that he be circumcised on that day. If the slaughter or the circumcision is delayed beyond that day, there is no harm. It is permissible to invite his neighbors and relatives to eat from the 'aqiqah. As for their bringing sheep to the one who invited them, there is no basis for this practice, and it involves difficulty and embarrassment for people, so this custom must be abandoned.
And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
