Clarification of the Statement on the Sacrifice for a Newborn

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
He asks another question, the summary of which is: Tell us about the sacrifice for a newborn and its rulings, what is the ruling on delaying it, who is permitted to eat from it, and who is not?

Answer:
The sacrifice for a newborn is the animal slaughtered for the newborn child: two for a male and one for a female. It is a confirmed recommended practice (sunnah muakkadah). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) commanded it. The best is to slaughter it on the seventh day; this is the best. It was narrated from Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that it was slaughtered on the fourteenth and twenty-first days, but the best is the seventh day; this is the best. If that is not feasible and it is slaughtered on the fourteenth or twenty-first day, as Aisha said, that is good. If it is slaughtered on any other day, there is no harm; there is no fixed limit after the seventh day. If it is slaughtered after one week, on the seventh day, or after two weeks, or after a month, or two months, or more, there is no blame. There is no limit for that. In fact, the recommended practice is that it should be slaughtered even if it is delayed. The father, the child's father, slaughters it. The recommended practice for the father is to slaughter it, even if it is after the week, but the best is that he aims for the seventh day; this is the best.
Its ruling is that it is a recommended practice (sunnah), not obligatory. One may eat from it, feed his relatives, or his neighbors, or distribute it to the poor, or eat some of it and distribute some of it, or prepare a wedding feast and invite people to it. All of this is good, and praise be to Allah.

The presenter : May Allah reward you with good.
