Fatwa No. ( 21781 )
Q: We are ten students who performed the obligatory Hajj as tamattu' two years ago, and we slaughtered one camel on behalf of the ten ; relying on hadith numbers (904 and 905) in the chapter: (What has come regarding sharing in a camel or a cow) in the chapters of Hajj from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) in (Sunan al-Tirmidhi). What is the ruling on that Hajj, and do we owe anything, and what is it and how?
A: Your Hajj is valid, if Allah wills, and you must slaughter three sheep in Makkah as qada'; because each of the ten owes a fidyah, and a camel is only sufficient for seven; due to the hadith of Jabir who said:Sahih Muslim 1318b It was narrated by Muslim , and al-Tirmidhi said: (The practice is followed by the people of knowledge among the Companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and others, who hold that a camel is sufficient for seven and a cow for seven). And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.

He commanded us that seven persons should join in a camel and a cow for offering sacrifice.
