Q: What is your opinion, may Allah reward you, regarding camel meat, is it among the things that break the ablution or not? Please inform us, may you be rewarded, and kindly point to the evidence.
A: Praise be to Allah alone, and blessings and peace be upon His Messenger, his family, and his Companions.. After that: Eating camel meat is among the things that break the ablution, whether eaten raw or cooked. This is the view of Jabir ibn Samurah , one of the Companions of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and Muhammad ibn Ishaq, and Yahya ibn Yahya, and Imam Ahmad, and Ibn al-Mundhir, and a group of scholars; for what was narrated by Ahmad and Abu Dawud through the route of al-Bara' ibn 'Azib , who said: , and what was narrated
Imam Ahmad through the route of Usayd ibn Hudayr , who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: . So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) commanded performing ablution after eating camel meat. The default ruling for a command is obligation until evidence from the Shari'ah is found that diverts it from that. The default ruling for the term "ablution" when it appears in the Shari'ah evidence is that it is to be understood as the Shari'ah ablution, the one known in the custom of the Shari'ah, which is the one Allah made obligatory for prayer, until evidence from the Shari'ah is found that diverts it from that. We do not know of any Shari'ah evidence in this issue that diverts the command from obligation to recommendation, nor any that diverts the term "ablution" from its Shari'ah meaning to the linguistic meaning, which is: washing the hands and rinsing the mouth only. Therefore, it is obligatory to remain with the obligation of the Shari'ah ablution after eating camel meat. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send blessings and peace upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
