Taking a fee for stoning the pillars
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa number ( 18064 )
Q: One of my friends took six hundred riyals from pilgrims as a fee for stoning the pillars on the last two days of the days of Tashriq, and unfortunately he did not stone. He is now confused about his situation. We ask you to please provide a ruling on this matter, and may Allah reward you with every good for me.
A : It is obligatory for every pilgrim, and for your friend, to pay the fidyah (ransom payment); because he did not stone on their behalf. The fidyah is slaughtering a sheep that is suitable as an udhiyah (the 'Id sacrifice), which is slaughtered in Makkah and distributed to the poor of the Haram (the sacred precinct). The principle is that it is obligatory for the pilgrim to perform the acts of Hajj (the major pilgrimage) himself, including the stoning. If he is unable to perform the stoning himself, it is permissible for him to appoint another pilgrim to stone on his behalf. Your friend must return the money to its owners if he knows them, and inform them of the reality so that they may pay the fidyah for themselves. If he does not know them, he must buy a fidyah for them with the aforementioned money, according to the number of their heads, and complete the excess from his own money due to his negligence. Whether he slaughters for them sevenths of camels or cows according to the number of their heads, or the equivalent number of sheep. If he is unable to pay the fidyah, he must fast ten days for each of them.
And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
