The ruling on seeing the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in a dream
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q278: The questioner says: It is reported from the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said: Some people claim that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came to them in a dream and gave them a phrase to repeat and to call people to it. This contradicts the noble verse, for Allah the Exalted said: [Al-Ma'idah 5:3] So, is such a claim to be believed or denied?
A278: As for seeing the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in a dream, it may occur, because the hadith reported on this matter is authentic. However, this applies to one who knows the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), who knew him in a waking state and knows his attributes (peace and blessings be upon him). Satan does not resemble
him in his attributes. One who knows the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) and distinguishes him from others may see him in a dream. As for one who does not know the attributes of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) and does not distinguish his noble personality (peace and blessings be upon him), Satan may come to him and claim to be the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), misleading him in his religion.
(Whoever sees me in a dream has truly seen me, for Satan cannot impersonate me)
(ومن رآني في منامه فقد رآني حقاً فإن الشيطان لا يتمثل بي)This day I have perfected for you your religion and completed My favor upon you and have approved for you Islam as religion.
A278: As for seeing the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in a dream, it may occur, because the hadith reported on this matter is authentic.
