Sound Creed is Salvation from Trials

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q247: The questioner asks: How is a sound creed a salvation from trials? Also, we would like you to clarify for us: what is the protection from these trials? And what is the Muslim's position regarding them?
A247: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
There will be trials like the dark patches of the night; a man will be a believer in the morning and a disbeliever in the evening, and a disbeliever in the morning and a believer in the evening, selling his religion for a trifle of this world. It was said: What is the way out of them, O Messenger of Allah? He said: "The Book of Allah"ستكون فتن كقطع الليل المظلم، يصبح الرجل مؤمناً ويمسي كافراً، ويمسي مؤمناً ويصبح كافراً، يبيع دينه بعرض من الدنيا"، قيل ما المخرج منها يا رسول الله. قال: "كتاب الله
This is the Noble Qur'an and the Prophetic Sunnah. This is as in his saying (peace and blessings be upon him):
for those of you .who live after me will see great disagreement. You must therefore follow my sunna and that of the rightly guided Caliphs. Hold to it and stick fast to it. 1 Avoid novelties, for every novelty is an innovation, and every innovation is error.
Mishkat al-Masabih 165Sahīh (Zubair `Aliza'i)

When Hudhayfah ibn al-Yaman (may Allah be pleased with him) asked him about the trials and what his position would be if he were to encounter them, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Stick to the group of Muslims and their Imam (ruler).تلزم جماعة المسلمين و إمامهم "
Sahih al-Bukhari 7084
This is as in the saying of Allah the Exalted:
O you who have believed, obey Allah and obey the Messenger and those in authority among youيَاأَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا أَطِيعُوا اللَّهَ وَأَطِيعُوا الرَّسُولَ وَأُولِي الْأَمْرِ مِنْكُمْ
[An-Nisa 4:59]
. And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) when they asked him for advice:
I advise you to fear Allah, and to listen and obey, even if a slave is appointed over you. Whoever among you lives will see much disagreementأوصيكم بتقوى الله، والسمع والطاعة، وإن تأمر عليكم عبد، فإنه من يعش منكم فسيرى اختلافاً كثيراً
. And Allah (Exalted and Majestic is He) commanded obedience to the rulers of the Muslims. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
I have left you upon a white, clear path, its night like its day; none will deviate from it after me except those who are destroyed. And whoever among you lives will see much disagreement. So hold fast to what you know of my Sunnah and the Sunnah of the Rightly Guided Caliphs. Bite down on them with your molars. And hold fast to obedience, even if an Abyssinian slave is over you. For the believer is like a camel with a broken nose; wherever it is tied, it submitsقد تركتكم على البيضاء ليلها كنهارها، لا يزيغ عنها بعدي إلا هالك و من يعش منكم، فسيرى اختلافا كثيرا، فعليكم بما عرفتم من سنتي وسنة الخلفاء الراشدين المهديين عضوا عليها بالنواجذ وعليكم بالطاعة، و إن عبداً حبشيا، فإنما المؤمن كالجمل الأنف حيثما قيد انقاد
He said this to Hudhayfah when he informed him about the trials. Hudhayfah said: What do you command me to do, O Messenger of Allah, if that befalls me? He said:
"Adhere to the congregation of the Muslims and their imam." He said: "What if they have no congregation and no imam?" He said: "Then isolate yourself from all those sects, even if you have to bite on the root of a tree, until death comes to you while you are upon that"تلزم جماعة المسلمين وإمامهم "، قال: فإن لم يكن لهم جماعة ولا إمام؟ قال: "فاعتزل تلك الفرق كلها، ولو أن تعض على أصل شجرة، حتى يأتيك الموت وأنت على ذلك
Sunan al-Bayhaqi 15:1018
. This is what Allah and His Messenger advised regarding the occurrence of trials: adhering to the congregation of the Muslims. If they have no congregation and no imam—there is no power nor strength except in Allah—then one should isolate oneself and stay away from the trials so that they do not affect him, thereby saving his soul.
