Zakah on Household Utensils

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The second question of Fatwa No. ( 20303 )
Q2: What is the ruling on one who inherited valuable silver household utensils several years ago and does not know the amount of zakah due on them, as he has never paid zakah on them before? What is the amount of zakah on silver? And does he have to pay zakah for the past years?
A2: Zakah is not obligatory on utensils unless they are intended for trade, in which case zakah is obligatory on their value, or if they are made of gold and silver, in which case zakah is obligatory on them if they reach the nisab (minimum threshold) or more. He must pay out what corresponds to one-quarter of one-tenth of their weight each year, or one-quarter of one-tenth of their value. It should be known that it is forbidden to possess utensils made of gold and silver, and he must pay zakah for
the past years for which he did not pay zakah. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
