The land you intended for trade by selling it if its value increases

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa number ( 14153 )
Q: I inform your eminence that I own three plots of land in Makkah al-Mukarramah and al-Riyadh . I received two of them as a grant from the government, and I purchased the third twelve years ago. My intention was to sell it in the future if I needed the extra money, or to develop it if I obtained a large sum. I have neither sold it nor developed it. As for the two plots I received from the municipality, I intended to keep them for my children to live in, or for them to sell after my death, because I have not left my children a house to live in after my death. Please inform me, may Allah reward you with good, whether zakah is obligatory on me for these lands, and what is the amount? And peace be upon you.
A: The land you intended for trade by selling it if its value increases is subject to zakah every year, based on its value at the completion of the lunar year, at the rate of two and a half percent. As for the land you intended to keep for your children to live in after you, there is no zakah on it.
And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
