One Who Is Unable to Perform Sa'y Personally

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa No. ( 14446 )
Q1: I performed 'Umrah in the blessed month of Ramadan in the year 1411 AH with my family. After completing the tawaf and four rounds of sa'y between al-Safa and al-Marwah, one of the children became exhausted and sat down in the sa'y area after walking four rounds without completing them. He is eight years old. We took him back to the south and he did not complete the sa'y. I ask for clarification of the ruling in this matter.
Q2: A kind brother advised me not to turn on the television in the house because of the harms contained in it. I heeded his advice and said, after removing the television from the house: “I pledge to Allah that it will not be turned on in my house as long as I am alive.” I continued with this for about two years. We had neighbors like us, but then they turned their television back on in their house. They are the closest people to us and we do not cut ties with them.
My children began going to their house day and night, causing us problems. One day, I went to visit a friend at night and returned, and my wife had turned the television back on for the children. I became angry about this and asked them not to turn on any useless entertainment. They promised me that they would not do so in my absence, but in my presence, I would never accept it. However, I am confused about this pledge to my Lord. I ask for guidance to what is good. May Allah preserve you.

A: It is obligatory for you to return with your son in a state of ihram, because he has not yet exited the state of ihram from the aforementioned 'Umrah. He must perform tawaf and sa'y himself. If he is unable to perform sa'y himself, he should be carried in a vehicle to perform it, then he should shave his head or shorten his hair so that he exits the state of ihram from the 'Umrah. As for the pledge in which you broke your oath, you must expiate it with the expiation for an oath, which is: feeding ten poor people, or clothing them, or freeing a slave. If you cannot find the means to do so, then fast for three days. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
