Q: I inform you, O honorable Shaykh: I went to perform the obligatory Hajj in the year 1415 AH intending to perform Hajj alone (ifrad) and did not perform 'Umrah in the sacred months , and I had performed 'Umrah many times on ordinary days. Some people told me that it is necessary for me to perform 'Umrah in the sacred months. I hope you will inform me, may Allah preserve you, O honorable Shaykh, and reward you for all good.
A : This statement made by some people to you, that it is obligatory for you to perform 'Umrah in the sacred months, is a statement with no basis in the pure Shari'ah; rather, it is speaking without knowledge. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
